Sustainable Development in Nursing Library: A Case Study of Focus Institute of Medical Science, Malakand

This qualitative study explores nursing college library development, focusing on collection development, information management, technology integration, and collaboration. It examines the library's role in supporting student success and evolving nursing knowledge. The study also examines the library's ability to equip students with essential skills for information retrieval and evaluation. The study found positive user observations and suggests improvements in information accessibility and user-friendliness. To enhance these outcomes, the library should refine digital collections, improve physical accessibility, create flexible study spaces, and offer various user services.
Findings from the FIMS College of Nursing case study reveal critical challenges, including outdated materials, limited digital access, insufficient computers, and restrictive library hours that hinder nursing students' academic progress. Thematic analysis of participant responses underscores the need for collaborative efforts among librarians, faculty, and external organizations (e.g., UNESCO) to promote open-access policies and resource sharing. Furthermore, a sustainable library framework must balance environmental considerations (green practices), financial stability (digital investments), and technological integration (AI-based search systems). Adopting adaptable models, such as HEC Access and ALA guidelines, is essential for fostering resilient, future-ready nursing libraries that support evidence-based practice and lifelong learning.
